Victims for Sale by author Nish Amarnath is a breath-taking thriller!
Inked in 322 pages, it has all the elements a thriller lover would like to read in a suspense-filled book.

Starting with the very first scene in Mumbai, where a loved one of the protagonist meets an unfortunate end, the story shifts to London where a series of mysterious events start following Sandy, the 19-year old journalist.  Sandy comes to stay as a paying guest at the residence of the Sawants to complete her studies in LSE. While the family members look caring and cultured, some gruesome family secrets are lurking in the dark.

The atmosphere is wrapped with uneasiness and some abnormal reactions of the members are evident whenever there is a discussion on Asha, the mentally challenged daughter of the Sawants. Managing her studies, career, grief due to personal loss as well as efforts to build up renewed hopes in a new country, Sandy finds a link between the sudden turn of events   in the Sawant household and the serial hit-and-run cases, murders, email threats and betrayals that begin to follow   her after she comes to know about an illegal sex racket and a human trafficking ring. Sandy is asthmatic, vulnerable and a kind girl in her late teens, but is highly intelligent, curious and strong-willed as she keeps the fight on to find out the real culprits who are placing children of the lesser gods in immense suffering.

Each page is so gripping that more and more revelations follow even as the sudden twists in the scenes enhance the fretful anticipation of the involved reader. Each character seems like a suspect in this flesh-trade. The moment I parked my suspicion on one character, the story would bring a huge twist   in the plot, which increased my curiosity more.

The story also has a smooth pace and a good flow. The parts played by Nirmal, Jeff, Carl, Rosie, Ritchie and even Shailaja triggered my thinking a lot. The news agency and the police’s role were described briefly, keeping them light and lucid so that it was not boring.

This thriller is not all about entertainment but it has a purpose. Through the thrilling fiction Nish Amarnath has thrown light on the areas of our society where innocents pay a heavy price for the devilish nature of people with sinister intentions, where humans are used as materials for business. These evil people live among us and surprisingly   right under our nose. Sometimes they are our dear and trusted ones.

Many people are involved in such dangerous crimes, but they are not impossible to track down if the police and the government can come together and also give protection to whistle-blowers. The ending is incredible and shocking. The author has crafted this story carefully with much wit and a string of mysterious events, keeping the answers hidden till the end. It was never too much! I absolutely loved reading this book. I am eagerly waiting to read more of the author’s creations.
