I have been an avid fan of author Amar B. Singh's books for some time now. His unique style of storytelling through verses is truly captivating. Behind the Golden Bars of Freedom by Radhika is a beautifully written novel that takes us on a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and growth. The story follows the life of Dorothy, a teenager who joins L’ Étudiante Éclairée (LEE) International School in Coonoor. The novel is a coming-of-age story that delves into the struggles and challenges of adolescence, the need for freedom, and the importance of friendship. Author Radhika's writing is vivid, poetic, and draws the reader into the story. With 138 pages she has done an excellent job of writing a beautiful story.  The descriptions of the hill town of Coonoor and LEE are so vivid that one can almost smell the pine trees and feel the chilly breeze. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the author does an excellent job of showing the complexities of teenage life. The story is set against the backdrop of India's struggle for independence in 1900 and focuses on the life of Suraj, the main character. Sengupta has done an incredible job of weaving together the tapestries of human emotions, love, patriotism, sacrifice, friendship, and family into a rich and dazzling narrative. Suraj's struggle with the injustice around him began early in life, as he was born into a nation deeply entrenched in the darkness of colonialism. As the nation began to awaken, a group of men and women of sheer intellect, courage, and an unwavering sense of duty towards their motherland built a revolution in secrecy.
