Do you like to travel? Which places are you planning to visit soon? When I was in school, our teachers encouraged us to write a travel journal during summer vacations, jotting down our experiences if we visited any place.
Places Via Notes is a 52-page book published by BookLeaf Publishing. The author, Viswaprasad Raju, is an advertising professional and a talented travel sketch artist based in Hyderabad. The cover sketch, drawn by the author himself, looks beautiful and creative over the clean white background — very aesthetic and eye-catching.
The book does not give much hint about its content at first. But as you start reading, you discover that it is a collection of notes written in a poetic style, where the author shares his personal memories from various places he has visited.
Some places are historically important, while others shine as amazing tourist spots. But I think I as a reader or someone who has not visited lets say a particular city or cities would find it much easier if some more explainations or facts are presented besides those. Like for example- One who has not visited or accustomed with bengali language in Kolkata may not know what maidaan or illissh represents or signifies here. Else one word name mentions are fine for people who have got a prior idea of the local languages or the places mentioned.
From Ameenpur, Antarvedi, Bhedaghat Waterfall (where an Ashoka film song was shot with Kareena Kapoor), and Kolkata-the City of Joy-to other Indian gems like the Buddhist-influenced mountainous wonder Ladakh, Mumbai, entertaining Goa, famous Hampi, and Kerala, he takes us on a journey across India.
He also shares glimpses of places across Asia like Sri Lanka and Mauritius, and even far-off locations like Switzerland, Dubai, Tadoba, and Cape Town and even such places whose name I heard for the first time like West Wycombe but now I feel motivated to visit them for sure! 😃
This is a short, sleek book filled with travel experiences. Travel lovers will enjoy flipping through its pages, exploring the author’s memories and feel motivated to visit those places too!
